Return to Horror Hotel Review

5 / 10. Horror anthology of four fun and gruesome stories

A low budget anthology of four fun and gruesome stories, directed by Ricky Hess and Brandon Thaxton, based around events at the same Horror Hotel, including:

Sleep Tight

A gross story about giant oozing bedbugs.

Guillotine

A cautionary tale about a magical charm that can turn any woman beautiful and desirable.

No Time for Love

A supernatural story about a WWII sailor stuck in time who hasn't aged.

Houdini’s Hand

A twisted tale about a theft gone wrong and a homicidal severed hand.

The acting isn’t amazing in Return to Horror Hotel, although all actors tackled their roles with enthusiasm (Baby Norman, J Michael Grey, R.C. Sayyah, Stephanie Stevens, Montrel Miller, among others).

I found that the stories were funny, and they had interesting subject matter that could sit somewhere between The Twilight Zone and earlier Supernatural stand-alone episodes.  I enjoyed them and they all had a moral to the story, like macabre fables.

The special effects were good and creative, and the stories were the right length – maybe the first was a little longer than it needed to be.

My favourite was No Time for Love, I found this story to be the most engaging and it reminded me of the spooky stories I used to read in my sister’s early 1980s girl’s comics.

I wish I hadn’t been eating my lunch whilst watching Sleep Tight ! :)
